The Alpha series dumbbells use a high quality odorless rubber that is 5 layers thick and vulcanized. They have a steel core head underneath the rubber, that is very important because 99% of the hex head dumbbells on the market are cast iron under the rubber and have two layers of rubber over the cast iron. Welds do not hold well to cast iron but on steel the welds rarely if ever will break, making the Alpha V.2 a true commercial grade dumbbell. The handles are extremely high quality straight handles with a clean knurl on them.
